Bike and Walking Paths on E&N Route gains more support

It looks like the push by both Parksville and Qualicum Beach Councils to look at alternate uses of the E&N Rail Corridor has gained some traction. Nanaimo City Council recently endorsed a motion to push for bike and walking paths along the entire length of the E&N Rail Corridor. The Nanaimo Mayor and Council members unanimously endorsed the motion to establish continuous public access along the entire length of the rail line.

It calls on the Island Corridor Foundation, the non-profit group that holds stewardship of the land, to work with local governments and First Nations to establish better bicycle and pedestrian facilities along the route, without compromising the possible return of passenger rail service to the corridor.
The motion also states that the ICF seek senior government funding for biking and walking facilities along the line.

I know there are lots of local cyclists who have a definite opinion about rail trails on the E&N Rail Corridor. How about adding your thoughts to the growing swell of interest on local Rail Trails. The more voices that are heard on this topic, the more support there will be for such an initiative.
